Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is eager to close a deal for Houston Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron.

Cameron can operate in a variety of positions, an ability which manager Pulis hopes will come in useful as he adapts to life in the Barclays Premier League.

He said: “He will give us plenty of options. He can play at centre-back, across midfield and even at full-back as well.

“With the squad that we have, it’s always useful to have players who are versatile, so in that sense he will be a good asset for the club.

“We believe that he is a player who can cope with the Premier League because he has done exceptionally well over the past year.

“We have watched him a few times, but he also comes with great recommendations from many who consider him one of the top players in the MLS.”

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock admits there’s little chance of dissuading Robert Snodgrass over a move to Norwich City.

Snodgrass won both Leeds fans’ player of the year and players’ player of the year awards for the 2011/12 season.

Warnock told the club’s official website: “He’s always said he wants to play in the Premier League, although I’m not sure it’s a great move because I think another year would have suited him.

“But he’s in the last year of his contract and players are in charge of the situation at that stage.

“The fans know that I’m doing everything I can and we have to make sure we cover the loss of Rob. We do need a couple of quality signings and we’re talking to a number of prospects at the moment.

“Unfortunately you can’t keep a player if he wants to go. You can do your best, but your hands are tied sometimes, and we’ve tried every way we can to get him to stay, but in the end it wasn’t possible.”

He made just nine starts in the closing stages of their promotion-winning Championship campaign and his chances look further limited in the top flight.

“We’ve mentioned probably 30 people like that and I’ve not made contact with the club myself,” Warnock told the Yorkshire Post.

“But I’m not saying he hasn’t been mentioned because there are 20 or 30 players we’ve asked about, talking to Premier League managers and staff.

“We’ve not even considered making an offer for him. We’ve just been asking people what the availability of that type of player is.”

But I think we can do it!” he told City’s website.

“The Champions League will come later on and that will be a big objective for us because last year was a tough group but we felt that we could have done a bit better.”
